Task

Background:

Tele-health can reduce socioeconomic demands by reducing travelling for face-to-face visits. Technology can be successfully applied in community-based patient care to enhance the capacity of nurses to deliver medications management for clients, resulting in increased efficiency of service delivery as well as staff and patient satisfaction. Tele-health in patients’ homes supplements delivery of care, can reduce unplanned medical visits and improve self-management of an illness. Remote healthcare can supplement the delivery of care, providing support to clients and healthcare staff. For this project we are using the Tunstall tele-health monitoring equipment as an example of the type of equipment that is used. The aim of the project is to improve the tablet computer interaction for the end-user of tele-health hardware and software in the homes of older people living in the community. We will assume that the community-dwelling older people live in regional, rural and remote locations in the central west of NSW. The solution involves a cloud-based mobile application, although you might also identify other possible delivery methods for the interaction.

wHealth - (Wireless Health) Telehealth service

1. Introduction

Information and communications technology (ICT) is used to deliver the health services like telemedicine, telehealth,ehealth,telecare. All these services are provided by ICT over a period of Forty years. For ICT enabled health care delivery Australia should be a good candidate. Because there is limited access to specialists in remote and rural areas and given that technology is readily available and relatively inexpensive (for example Skype and webcam). In Australia for the Australian government Health is the second largest expenditure and the health sector is the largest employer and telehealth is increasingly regarded as a means of addressing the growing costs of health care delivery.In Australia for 9 telehealth projects in 2012 the Department of Health allocated $20.6 million with the aim of how telehealth services could be used in the home, particularly for aged care and other disease. The Australian Government was provide the strategy of NBN(National Broadband Network) for new broadband-based services and applications, particularly in health with high speed in broadband connection.[3]

Telehealth provides various benefits for patients, their families, health care workers and the broader health system, and in NSW to support the high quality , patient centred care -funds and effort have been invested in telehealth .[2]

ICT provided services like e-Health application and m-Health technology and globally by increasing availability and utilization of these technologies the health care sector becoming more digitised. By using these technologies, telehealth has a potential to play an important role in improving the quality of patient care and reduce the any inefficiencies in health system. In the future to maximize these benefits offered by telehealth, it is necessary for NSW Health to anticipate the continued developments in health care and the opportunities presented by ICT .

For effective delivery of telehealth services wHealth technology is used. this is an ensemble sensing framework which is known as wireless Health. By using sensors which is embedded in everyday devices it extracts the personal health information and allow better and seamless interaction between patients and clinicians. wHealth framework has all the potential for managing elderly healthcare to enable the widespread adoption of telehealth services due to its design , ease of maintenance and seamless interaction.[1]

2. Positioning

2.1 Problem Statement

To enhancing the effectiveness of the telehealth technology there are various challenges. Devices that are used for telehealth due to their size and poor design they can pose barriers to use them . In many situations a large number of devices are required for one function and many of these devices not have user-friendly interfaces. The client needs to ensure that all equipments have sufficient power and are properly calibrated. For elderly due to increasing disability and impairment this is very difficult. cost is one of the most critical reason that restricting the widespread adoption of telehealth technology because Purchasing and maintaining the monitoring devices often very higher cost. For that the wHealth plateform will overcome all the impediments of the telehealth services and enable its widespread adoption for managing elderly healthcare .

3. Stakeholder Descriptions

In the delivery of health services there are a number of stakeholders using ICT: the client/patient, management/organization , the telehealth worker and government. When technology provides the effective and seamless communication then service quality is increased for the patient..

3.1 User Environment

wHealth is an ensemble sensing framework in which “Ensemble” refers to a group of items, which is rather than individually viewed as a whole. wHealth framework has three components: smartphone, smart watch and smart glass that work in ensemble. Sensors embedded in these components monitor the various physiological, behavioural and physical conditions of its user. In all these three components programming option is very flexible which offers customised sensing that can be prepared to meet individual requirements.

In Smartphones have higher computational capacity and longer battery life , but has limited sensing opportunity, as phones are not carried for extended periods. if we talk about smart watches and smart glasses they are worn for relatively longer periods, but both of these have lack computational and battery power. but In the wHealth framework, all the client data from smart watch and smart glass transfered to the smartphone for further processing , and by this make the best use of sensing opportunity , computational power and battery life .

Behavioural sensing

The meaning of Behavioural sensing is to sensing of sleep patterns, feeding and social interaction. All the three component of wHealth framework has accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope sensors which can be used to monitor/sensing sleep patterns, physical activities and feeding. As compare to sensor data from one location it will helps to sensor data from three different locations in the body and this makes in better characterising various activities underlying these behaviours.

Physiological sensing

Over the coming years the smartwatch could benefit the health of client/patient and with the rapid advancements in smart watch technology passive and seamless physiological sensing has become possible. it will be able to track the blood oxyzen level, heart rate, blood pressure and also monitor the stress level of human by electrodermal activity. This device is always in touch with your skin so that it can measure all these physiological parameters.

In smartphones front camera and microphone are used which sensing or predict depression of human mind and that information can be collected, when any person making call or sending texts .

Physical sensing

Physical sensing means to capture all the physical activities of the patient. We know that their is an accelerometer sensor in wHealth components.This sensor is used to smart watch which is used to determine the ratio between the active and inactive periods.Activities like sitting, climbling upstrairs, walking, running and lying, all these activities are determine by smart watch accelerometer sensor. But the smart watch has limited processing speed and battery life classification of all these activities are cann't completely done. At that time data from watch is transfered to phone for the classification.

Facilitating Interventions

Smart Glass is a new technology which is attached with any spectacles or built into spectacles and providing seamless intervention. Smart glass is also known as Google glass and by using this technology health information of any person can be projected just front of their eyes, which stop necessity of any additional device.

Smartphones can also enable the remote intervention. there are so many brain games are now available, which can be downloaded as a part of interventions on patients phone. Smartphone is a best way for audio/ video conferencing with their clinicians.

Data collection and dissemination

wHealth Framework is a vary good telehealth service , which not require any external hub or storage to collect the information of patient. All the data or information can be store in Smartphones which could be transferred by using wifi or 3G/4G medium for futher processing.Bluetooth is known as communication protocol which can be used to interconnect the components to transfer the data.

4.2 Needs and Features of wHealth Plateform

Passive Sensing

The wHealth framework is a userfriendly plateform which allow to collect all the physiological data, behavioural data and physical data of user without any intervention and can also detect any timecritical events. In wHealth plateform all the three components are used to identify slowly developing conditions of patients so that enabling any earlier prevention .This passive sensing of wHealth framework can reduce the burden of continously montoring the health of patient and clinician

Non-stigmatising

All the three components Smartphone, Smart glass and Smartwatch of wHealth framework are wearable devices and also the symbol of fashions. these components do not reveal as monitoring devices and these component can also attract the people of all the ages. so we can say that key focus of wHealth framework is a non-stigmatising plateform.

Ease of Maintenance

All the three components are recharge able devices. Smartwatchs can be recharge to tell the time, Smartphones would be recharge for make calls or send text to their friends and family, and people also recharge smart glasses to see the emails or any meeting reminder in front of their eyes. In wHealth framework reducing the number of devices and sensors are used in one device and maintenance of these devices are easy.

Compatibility

wHealth framework is user friendly and used on same operating system.All three components work on Android OS. Bluetooth as a communication protocol used in most of smart devices. By using this protocol any device can connect with other device and data can be transferred instantly.
