Background

During the Driving Marketing Innovationmodule (otherwise referred to as DMI) you are exposed to key aspects of entrepreneurship and innovationthat can be applied to different types of organisation ranging from small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) through to multi-national enterprises (MNEs). In the process, you have beenencouraged to identify the challenges that organisations are likely to face in driving innovative marketing strategy through the business. You now have an opportunity to chooseone organisationand identify a suitable opportunity for innovation (either in the products/services it offers or in its processes). The organisation may operate globally, regionally or nationally.In making your choice, you should ensure that sufficient material is available from sources such as the Financial Times or MINTEL.Please choose one of the following organisations: Boots, Aldi, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, Paul Smith, Body Shop, Ikea,Zara, Timberland, Ted Baker andH&M.

You will need to identify current product or service portfolio offered by the chosen organisation and develop your new product/service (not apps, please) to add to this portfolio and identify clearly the reasons why this product/service is needed in the marketand define the target audience that will benefit from this new product/service.

Requirement

There are twoaspectsto this assignment: both stages are summative (i.e. they are formally assessed):

Pitch presentation:You will be required to makean individual ‘pitch’ presentation.The presentationslides for this need to be uploaded to Dropbox by the 12/07/2020at 23.00 and forms 30% of your final mark. You will assume presenting this to your tutors, who will be adopting the role of directors of your chosen organisation. Your ‘pitch’ presentation will need to be professional and well-crafted in order to create the right impression. You will have 15 minutes to make your presentation.

Pitch Document: In addition to your power point presentation, you will be expected to summarise your ideas in a formal pitch document (or business case) of2,000 words in length. This should be submitted to Dropbox on 12/07/2020 by 23.00 pmand forms 70% of your final mark. A separate business case template will be provided that will include an indication of the number of words required in each section. You must submit your business case in the required format using the template provided (see appendix). The best approach is to type up your business case in a separate Word document and then simply cut sections from the Word document and paste into the relevant section of the template. It is this version that you ultimately need to submit not your original Word document!

Both, your business caseand presentationshould be supported by relevant academic theory from creativity, entrepreneurship, marketing, innovation and include the following:

  • Provide an overview of risks and ways to minimise risks of failure.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate your ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ensure your slides are professional and follow the structure of the business case report.
  • Show that you can be innovative in the way in which you present your ideas.
  • Support your proposal with suitable theory and concepts from the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation.

You should:

  • Use the required template.
  • Explain who would benefit from the innovative idea (target market), why it will be beneficial to your chosen organisation and two organisational objectives (medium and long-term).
  • Identify the appropriate marketing strategy informing positioning.

  • Provide an overview of risks and ways to minimise risks of failure.
  • Support your case with theory/concepts from the entrepreneurship and innovation literature as well as with relevant market data.
