- Each student need to select one of the topics described below.
- Research your topic and write a short report that will help describe the hardware concept to “readers.” and should include the following:
- Hardware name;
- Description;
- How it works;
- Other devices/components can be connected to;
- Specifications
- Word limit: 400-500 words
Topics
- Types of Computers – supercomputers, mainframe, minicomputers, workstations, personal computers.
- Computer Bus Systems – the data bus, the address bus, Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus, VESA Local Bus (VL-Bus), Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus, Universal Serial Bus (USB)
- Digital Cameras – how do they work, types and price-points
- Memory Cache – internal and external cache, SRAM chips, its uses
- Microprocessors – how chips are made, “the clean room”, evolution of the mircochip
- Laptop/Notebook Computers – advantages/disadvantages, brands, features and price-points

Below is a motherboard with 10 unlabelled parts (numbered 1–10, to be clear). For each of these numbers, tell us:

Question 3 (10 Marks)
Your friend is interested in buying a brand-new computer, but unfortunately, he/she doesn’t know anything about computers. Your friend is working with an $900 budget and is looking for a computer that will allow him/her to run all the common and most current software applications, Windows 10 operating system software, as well as allow him/her to play video games, surf the Internet, play videos and music files, etc.
Your task is to write a minimum of four paragraphs expressing an opinion on finding a computer that meets the requirements of your friend and does not exceed his/her budget.
